Things to Be Accomplished BEFORE Moving a Manufactured Home
- Disconnect electricity, water, gas and phone service.
- Secure needed permits from all city officials.
- Disassemble and remove carport from home and pack.
- Remove, disassemble and pack ceiling fans.
- Disconnect and pack TV, VCR or DVD player, DVD’s, cassettes, etc., and phones.
- Remove and pack curtains, rods and blinds.
- Pack all knick knacks.
- Remove and pack all items mounted on the wall, pictures, mirrors, shelves, etc.
- Secure a reputable company to relocate your home to new location with proper material and
- equipment. Are they properly licensed, bonded and insured?
- Remove all tie-downs.
- All furniture, washer, dryer, freezer, refrigerator, water heater, etc. must be secured or removed before moving home.
Bathrooms
- Pack all medicines, drinking glasses, cosmetics and scale.
- Remove and pack all mirrors.
- Pack all personal items, lamps, linens, towels, etc.
- Pack all toilet and shower items.
- Secure or remove shower doors and toilet tank tops.
- Remove and pack all lighting globes.
Bedrooms
- Pack all lamps, bedding, all items and clothing from dressers.
- Drain the waterbed.
- Disassemble and remove beds and dressers.
- Remove and pack all items in drawers from dresser, night stands and cedar chest.
- Pack all clothing, shoes and jewelry from closet.
Laundry
- Pack all brooms, sweepers, all items for laundry cleaning.
- Disconnect washer and dryer. Secure the doors.
- Pack small rugs.
Den
- Pack all lamps, plants, books, magazines, rugs, cushions, etc.
- Remove and pack all items in curio case. Secure the doors.
- Remove and pack ceiling fan.
Kitchen
- Pack all cooking pots, pans, coffee pots, etc.
- Pack all foods and everything from pantry. Secure the door.
- Pack cook books and all items on cabinet tops.
- Empty and pack all items from drawers and cabinets.
- Secure all drawers and doors.
- Pack all refrigerator and freezer items.
- Remove and pack all items from stove.
- Remove table and chairs.
Dining Room
- Remove and pack all items from hutch.
- Remove and pack tiffany chandelier or other light fixtures.
- Remove table, chairs and hutch.
Living Room
- Pack all books and pictures from end tables
- Pack glass from table tops and lamps.
- Remove and pack ceiling fan.
- Remove sofa, chairs, curio cabinet, end tables and bookcases.
Office
- Remove and pack all items in computer desk and printer stand.
- Disconnect and pack computer, printer, fax, phones, etc.
- Pack all clothing, shoes and items from closet.
- Remove and pack ceiling fan.
Outside
- Pack and secure grill, swing and lawn furniture. Remove propane gas.
Shed 8’ x 12’
- Pack all gardening supplies.
- Pack all tools.
- Pack bicycles, mowers, pressure washer, snow blowers and shovels.
- Pack paint, brushes, thinners, etc.
- Pack all Christmas decorations.
- Pack all food items from freezer.
- Disassemble and pack shed.
Deck
- If deck is attached to home, disconnect, disassemble and pack. (Will it be useable at the new location? Then what?)
Shrubs, Flowers and Trees
- Leave all landscaping items behind. (In some states you are allowed to take anything you planted as long as you fill in the holes. You are usually required to leave the lawn.)
After the move
- Put everything back where it belongs.
- Repair or replace any broken items.
- Repair cracks in drywall and plastered ceilings.
Cost to move
- You must plan on at least $5,000 per section of home.
- Plus cost of mover for household items (possible storage costs)
- Plus living quarters until home is ready for occupancy.
- Plus cost of unknown and incidentals that will occur.
- Plus cost of emotional stress which can not be determined.
- Plus possible increase in rent and insurance.
- Plus additional cost for travel to new doctors, shopping, employment, food, etc.
